Gods own country Kerala is famous for its scenaric beauty and the perseverance the state posses. Kerala was established on 1st November 1956 and is the 22nd largest Indian state by area. Kerala is also the first state to form a lottery department of their own which is operated under the Taxes Department and the Government of Kerala.

The department releases 7 lotteries in a week with seasonal bumper lotteries. Kerala released their latest lottery named the Navakerala Lottery after the state was affected by severe floods from relentless monsoon rains where more than 300 lives were lost.

Finance minister TM Thomas Isaac stated that the amount collected from the sale of lottery Tickets will be used for the rebuilding of Kerala state as the gods own country dwelled into a heavy loss of resources and on the constructive front.

The history of Kerala Lotteries

The Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries formed their lottery department back in 1967 which saw a lottery department set up for the first time in India. This brilliant idea came from the then Finance Minister of Kerala, late Shri P.K. Kunju Sahib who had the vision to provide a stable source of income for the poor and middle class.

The Process

The aspirants purchase a lottery ticket and each ticket has a unique number which is termed as ‘Lottery Ticket Number’. On the draw date, the department releases 8 prize money and publishes the results at 03:00 PM and the aspirants have to match their ticket number from the published set of numbers.

Apart from the weekly lotteries, the Kerala State lotteries release several ‘Bumper Lotteries’ as well namely, Summer, Xmas, Vishu, Thruvonam, Pooja and Monsoon. Here is the prize money of the Weekly Lotteries which are conducted daily at 3:00 noon.

  • How to buy a lottery ticket of any state?
    Can other state person buy a lottery ticket? (Ex Resident of MP can buy Ticket of Kerala?)
    Is it available only with agencies, agents or available online too?
